This ceramic ornament features a detailed antique painting of the streaked chromodoris (Chromodoris strigata). Painted by Japanese artist Kumataro Ito, it is one of a series of nudibranch illustrations done aboard the steamer USS Albatross during its 2 ½ year research trip to the Philippines in beginning 1907. As color photography was still rather impractical at the time, the U.S. Bureau of Fisheries scientists hired the artist to capture the color of newly collected speciments.
Perfect for marine life lovers, scuba divers, snorkelers, aquarists, and biology enthusiasts.
