Ceramic Mug, (11oz, 15oz) - Gastropods by Dr. Ernst Haeckel

This ceramic mug features gastropod mollusks drawn by Dr. Ernst Haeckel.  These antique illustrations are from the 53rd plate from Haeckel's 1904  Kunstformen der Natur (Art Forms in Nature). Originally labeled "Prosobranchia", an older term for the snails. Here is a list of the species' binomial names in Haeckel's time and their updated classification.  Starting from the upper left and moving clockwise:

1. Conus imperialis (Linné) = Conus imperialis Linnaeus, 1758

2. Calcar triumphans (Philippi) = Guildfordia triumphans (Philippi, 1841), from above

3. Harpa ventricosa (Lamarck) = Harpa Röding Röding, 1798

5. Astralium imperiale (Chemnitz) = Astraea heliotropium Martyn, 1784, (from above)
