Frogfish are masters of disguise in the marine world, blending seamlessly into their surroundings with remarkable camouflage. These quirky fish belong to the family Antennariidae in the order Lophiiformes, a group known for its anglerfish relatives. This camouflage not only hides them from predators but also helps them ambush prey. Frogfish are lie-and-wait predators, using a modified dorsal fin spine tipped with a fleshy lure, called an esca, to attract unsuspecting prey within striking range. With their enormous mouths and lightning-fast reflexes, they can engulf prey in as little as 6 milliseconds.

Frogfish are not strong swimmers, relying instead on their pectoral and pelvic fins to "walk" across the seafloor. This unique locomotion, combined with their ability to expand their bodies like balloons, makes them fascinating to watch. Their diets consist mainly of fish, crustaceans, and even other frogfish, and their highly specialized hunting strategy allows them to consume prey up to twice their own size.
